BOX SCORE New York, N.Y.- Erin Cosio etched her name in Hunter College history on Wednesday night, scoring her 1,000th career point as the Hawks soared past John Jay, 71-50, in the Sportsplex.
Cosio, who finished with 13 points, hit the milestone basket with 1:34 remaining in the fourth quarter, sinking a three-pointer that put the finishing touch on a dominant performance by Hunter (15-4, 9-0 CUNYAC), who remain undefeated in conference play.
"This is an incredible and well-deserved honor for Erin. She embodies everything a coach could ask for—her leadership off the court, relentless work ethic, and dedication in the classroom have played a pivotal role in shaping this team. We couldn't be prouder to see her reach this career milestone, and for it to happen at home makes it even more special," said Coach John Garrett.
The game began as a back-and-forth battle, with the Bloodhounds (7-13, 5-4 CUNYAC) jumping out to a 21-16 lead after the first quarter. Hunter responded in the second period, tightening up defensively while getting key buckets from Alexa Charles and Katie Burke, as they closed the gap to just one heading into halftime, 31-32.
Charles once again led the charge with a game-high 25 points while adding 10 rebounds, six steals, and four blocks. The junior guard was instrumental in the third quarter, where the Hawks broke the game open with a 23-11 run, fueled by her aggressive drives and a pair of timely three-pointers from Burke and Cosio.
The Purple and Gold continued to impose its will in the final period, holding John Jay to just seven points. Burke finished with 14 points, shooting 4-for-7 from beyond the arc, while Kimberly Lau contributed seven points and a team-high seven assists.
The Hawks' defense was relentless, forcing 26 turnovers and converting them into 22 points. Their ability to control the tempo and crash the boards proved vital, out-rebounding John Jay 35-27.
With the victory, Hunter extends its winning streak and solidifies its position atop the CUNYAC standings.Â
The Hawks return to the court on Feb. 4 as they travel to Brooklyn College for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
