Hunter Cruises Past CCNY, 74-34, to Stay Perfect in Conference Play

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team extended its win streak and maintained an unbeaten conference record with a commanding 74-34 victory over CCNY on Wednesday evening at Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Hawks (10-4, 5-0 CUNYAC) relied on dominant performances from key players and an all-around team effort to overpower the Beavers (1-9, 1-4).

Junior guard Alexa Charles led the charge for Hunter, recording a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play. Charles showcased her versatility, adding four steals and three assists while shooting an efficient 9-of-16 from the field.

Hunter's strong start set the tone, as the team opened with a 17-6 first-quarter advantage. Gianna Henriques contributed significantly to the Hawks' efforts, securing a double-double of her own with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The forward also dished out four assists and provided a defensive presence with a block and two steals.

The Hawks widened their lead with a 24-6 second-quarter burst, fueled by contributions from Kimberly Lau, who scored eight points off the bench, including two three-pointers. Erin Cosio added six points and three assists, hitting two timely threes to energize the offense.

Hunter's bench played a pivotal role, outscoring CCNY's reserves 30-3. The team dominated the paint, scoring 34 points inside while also holding a significant rebounding edge, 62-41.

The Hawks' defense stifled CCNY throughout the game, holding the Beavers to just 17.5% shooting from the field and forcing 15 turnovers. Hunter capitalized with 15 points off turnovers and 15 second-chance points.

The Purple and Gold returns to the court as they host Lehman College on Jan. 22 in the Sportsplex. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
