Hunter Continues Winning Streak with Commanding Victory Over York

Jamaica, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team extended its winning streak and maintained its perfect conference record with a 76-49 triumph over York College on Wednesday evening on the road.

Hunter (12-4, 7-0 CUNYAC) started strong in the first quarter, with junior guard Alexa Charles setting the tone early, scoring eight of her game-high 26 points in the opening minutes. The Hawks' defense complemented their offensive attack, forcing multiple turnovers that led to fast-break points. Gianna Henriques added six points in the paint during the quarter, helping Hunter establish a 24-14 advantage ove the Cardinals (0-13, 0-7 CUNYAC).

In the second quarter, Hunter's dominance continued, fueled by the sharpshooting of Erin Cosio, who drained a pair of threes  to keep the Hawks ahead. The defense tightened further, holding York to just 11 points in the period. By halftime, Hunter held a 40-25 lead, thanks to consistent contributions from Charles and Henriques, who combined for 25 points by the break.

The third quarter saw the Purple and Gold put the game out of reach. The Hawks outscored York 25-19 in the frame, with Charles and Cosio leading the charge. Cosio finished with 14 points, including 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc, while Charles tallied five steals to disrupt York's offensive rhythm. Kimberly Lau showcased her playmaking ability, dishing out six assists while adding timely buckets.

Hunter slowed the pace in the fourth quarter, but Henriques continued to dominate the boards, finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds. The Hawks' bench also contributed, with Sophie Stratton adding six points on 3-of-4 shooting.

The Hawks excelled in the paint, scoring 52 points while also capitalizing on 28 points off turnovers. Their defensive intensity was evident, forcing 22 York turnovers and registering 17 steals.

Hunter will look to maintain their momentum as they travel to Sarah Lawrence on Monday for a nonconference game at 6:00 p.m.
