Bronxville, N.Y. — Alexa Charles led the way once again for Hunter College, notching her second consecutive double-double as the Hawks cruised to an 88-36 victory over Sarah Lawrence College on Monday night at the Campbell Sports Center. The win marked Hunter's seventh straight victory, improving their record to 13-4 overall.
Charles was electric on both ends of the court as she posted a triple-double, finishing with a game-high 35 points and 12 rebounds while adding a remarkable 10 steals. She showcased her scoring prowess early, helping the Hawks jump out to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Hunter's offense erupted for 33 points, fueled by sharp shooting from Erin Cosio and Katie Burke, who each tallied 14 points. Cosio's signature connection from beyond the arc with four three-pointers, while Burke added six rebounds and distributed five assists. The Hawks' dominance in transition was evident, as they recorded 31 fast-break points and converted 28 Sarah Lawrence turnovers into 51 points.
By halftime, Hunter held a commanding 50-20 lead and continued to pour it on in the third quarter, outscoring the Gryphons 26-10. The bench contributed significantly, with Makkedah Murray adding nine points and Kimberly Lau chipping in five assists and a block.
Defensively, Hunter was relentless, holding Sarah Lawrence to just 23.8% shooting from the field. The Hawks also controlled the boards with a 47-42 rebounding advantage, including 22 offensive rebounds that led to 17 second-chance points.
Hunter's impressive teamwork and depth were on full display as 11 players scored. The Hawks will look to maintain their unbeaten conference record when they host John Jay College on Friday Jan. 31 at 5:00 p.m.
