Bronx, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's swimming team wrapped up the first day of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Swimming Championships at Lehman College's APEX, securing second place with 69 points, just behind Baruch College's 72.
Leading the way for the Hawks was Germayne Chau, who captured gold in the 200-yard individual medley with a winning time of 2:16.41.
Hunter also earned a silver medal in the 400-yard medley relay as the team of Chau, Kiana Guarino, Lian Winter, and Cara Chang posted a time of 4:17.83.
Chang continued her strong performance with multiple individual podium finishes. She placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.80, while teammate Kateryna Titarenko finished fifth (27.48), and Hailey-Madison Quiller took seventh (27.57). In the 500-yard freestyle, Chang added a silver medal, touching the wall at 6:10.44, followed closely by Parvinabonu Makhmadalieva in third (6:16.67). Gwendolyn Posner finished fourth (6:35.96), and Kiara Walsh rounded out the top ten in seventh (6:52.78).
The Hawks' 200-yard freestyle relay team of Titarenko, Chang, Quiller, and Guarino also claimed silver, clocking in at 1:47.42.
Hunter returns to action for day two of the championships on Saturday, with events set to begin at 10 a.m. at Lehman's APEX.
