Hawks' Second-Half Surge Outlasts Medgar Evers, 88-73

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team earned their first conference victory of the season with a commanding second-half performance, defeating Medgar Evers 88-73 on Wednesday night in the Sportsplex.

The Hawks (3-10, 1-1 CUNYAC) showcased a balanced offensive effort, with five players scoring in double figures. Jack Meyers led the way with 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting, while grabbing seven rebounds and contributing on both ends of the floor. Donovon Cola and Casey Meyers chipped in 18 points apiece, combining for eight three-pointers and controlling the pace throughout the game.

Hunter's offensive rhythm kicked into high gear in the second half. After a tightly contested first half that saw the Hawks holding a slim 34-32 lead, they exploded for 54 points in the final 20 minutes. The team shot an impressive 57.1% from the field in the second half, including 45.5% from beyond the arc, to pull away from the Cougars.

Enzo Caceres-Roussel recorded a game-high 11 assists while also contributing 11 points and four rebounds for a double-double. Jayden Jarret provided a spark in the paint with 11 points and seven rebounds, highlighted by several crucial buckets during the Hawks' decisive second-half run. Off the bench, Gene Propper added six points and five rebounds, helping Hunter outscore Medgar Evers' reserves 30-22.

Defensively, the Hawks limited the Cougars to just 37.1% shooting for the game. Hunter dominated the boards with a 46-35 rebounding advantage, including key contributions from Cola and C. Meyers, who each pulled down eight rebounds.

The Hawks will look to build on this momentum as they return to the court to face conference rival John Jay on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
