Hawks Soar Past York, 7-2

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Hunter College men's soccer team erupted for a season-high seven goals, including strikes from six different Hawks, to claim a commanding 7–2 win over York College in a Saturday afternoon home contest at Randall's Island.

Hunter (4-5-3, 1-1-2 CUNYAC) controlled the tempo from the start, generating 21 first-half shots and scoring four unanswered goals before the break. A York (3-4-1, 2-1-1 CUNYAC) own goal in the 8th minute opened scoring, followed by a pair of assists from Patrick Irving. He set up Bejhon Alerte in the 24th minute, then found Fernando Zuvela in the 37th to make it 3–0. Just before halftime, David Zlobinsky netted his first goal of the season off a feed from Georgios Tsiakas to send the Hawks into the break with a 4–0 lead.

The Cardinals cut into the lead with two second-half goals, but the Hawks responded quickly. Irving added a goal of his own in the 85th minute off an assist from Ahmed Abukar. Less than two minutes later, Abdullah Al Maghrabi netted another goal, also assisted by Abukar to make it 6–2. Saleel Eldin capped the scoring in the 88th minute, off of a feed from Al Maghrabi.

.Hunter dominated statistically, outshooting York 34–14 and earning 15 corner kicks to the Cardinals' three. Max Tsigalnitsky recorded seven saves in goal for the win.

The Hawks return to play next week as they look to carry momentum into another conference match against Lehman on Oct. 15. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m. at Randall's Island Field #74.
