NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team battled conference rival Lehman College to a 1–1 draw on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island, with both goals coming in the first half before the defenses took over in a scoreless second.
The Hawks (4-5-4, 1-1-3 CUNYAC) opened the scoring in the 19th minute following a flurry of three straight corner kicks. Patrick Irving sent a dangerous ball into the box that found Conor Sullivan, who flicked it on with a smooth touch to Fernando Zuvela. The freshman connected with a well-placed header, giving Hunter the early 1–0 lead.
Lehman (6-1-4, 2-1-2 CUNYAC) responded in the 41st minute, capitalizing on a rebound finish to even the score before halftime.
The second half was a physical, end-to-end battle as the Hawks pushed for a winner. Allan Conway tested the keeper with a strike in the 72nd minute, and Georgios Tsiakas created a late chance in the 85th, but both were turned away. Lehman's goalkeeper tallied five saves, denying seven Hunter shots on goal.
Freshman Matthew Fridburg matched his career high with six saves in net, including an impressive cross-net dive late in the match. The Hunter backline, anchored by Sullivan, Irving, Conway, and Samuel Benson, was instrumental in defusing multiple second-half threats, holding Lehman scoreless over the final 45 minutes.
In the midfield, Ahmed Mohamed and Abdullah Al Maghrabi delivered two-way performances that showcased Hunter's high-level fitness and discipline. The duo covered ground from box to box, helping to stabilize play and maintain tempo. Tsiakas added a dynamic edge in transition, repeatedly outrunning defenders and drawing fouls, highlighting the Hawks' endurance and speed as they enter the final stretch of the season.
The Hawks continue conference play on Oct. 18 when they travel to face Medgar Evers for their final regular-season road match. Kickoff is set for 1:45 p.m. on Randall's Island Field #74.
