Hawks Compete at Ramapo Tri-Match

MAHWAH, N.J.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team battled through a pair of matches at the Ramapo College tri-match on Saturday, going five sets in a thrilling opener against Mount Saint Mary before falling in four sets to the host Roadrunners. The Hawks move to 6-19 overall on the season following the split.

Match 1: Hunter 2, Mount Saint Mary 3
(20-25, 25-18, 25-11, 22-25, 14-16)

Hunter opened the day with a back-and-forth five-set match against Mount Saint Mary, highlighted by career-high numbers and a balanced offensive performance.
After dropping the opening set, the Purple and Gold roared back in sets two and three. The offense found its rhythm in the second frame behind the consistent setting of Madeline Snyder, who dished out 43 assists and added a kill of her own. Hunter dominated the third set with a .478 hitting percentage, led by Amina Moummad's dominant attack.
Moummad had a career-best day with 26 kills on .343 hitting, while also adding three aces and 14 digs. Michelle Liu followed closely with 11 kills and five aces, playing a crucial role at the service line.
Hunter's serve-receive and defense kept them in the match late, with Deanna Vinitski anchoring the back row with 22 digs. Libero Natalie Morrill added 19 digs, and Kassidy Cruz Nuesi tallied nine kills.
The Hawks nearly completed the comeback, rallying to tie the fifth set at 14 before Mount Saint Mary scored the final two points to close out the match.

Match 2: Hunter 1, Ramapo 3
(17-25, 25-6, 22-25, 17-25)

Hunter rebounded in the second match with a commanding second-set win but ultimately fell in four sets to Ramapo.
The second set was the highlight for Hunter, as the team surged to a 25-6 win on .429 hitting and strong net presence. Moummad once again led the attack with 14 kills, while Lily Mattison notched eight kills and five total blocks.
Snyder continued her strong setting performance with 33 assists and 11 digs. Liu added six kills and four blocks, while Morrill collected a team-high 14 digs.
Despite the second-set outburst, Ramapo responded in sets three and four. The Hawks kept it close in the third, pulling within striking distance at 22-25, but could not maintain momentum in the fourth as the Roadrunners closed out the match.
Hunter totaled 41 kills in the match and out-blocked the hosts 12-6, showing grit and defensive intensity throughout the afternoon.

The Hawks return to the court on Oct. 16 for a conference match at York at 6 p.m.
