JAMAICA, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team cruised to a straight-set victory over York College on Thursday evening, earning a dominant 3–0 sweep (25–9, 25–15, 25–9) in a CUNYAC matchup at York's home gym.
With the win, the Hawks improved to 6–18 overall and 2–2 in conference play, while showcasing balanced offense and a sharp defensive effort throughout the contest.
Lily Mattison powered the offense with a match-high 12 kills and three blocks, hitting .333 on the night to lead all players with 14.5 points. She was one of eight Hawks to register a kill as Hunter hit .308 as a team and outscored the Cardinals (3-10, 1-2 CUNYAC) by a combined 75–33 margin.
Deanna Vinitski ran the offense efficiently with a team-high 15 assists, adding three digs, a kill, and an ace in a well-rounded effort.
Amina Moummad added four kills and led the team with five service aces, while
Vera Montalbano was nearly unstoppable at the net, finishing with six kills on seven swings (.714) and a service ace
Defensively, Hunter limited York to a -.125 hitting percentage across the three sets. The Hawks collected 25 total digs, led by
Varvara Kudinova (7), Moummad (5), and Vinitski (5). At the net, Mattison and
Madeline Snyder combined for five total blocks.
Hunter dominated the opening set with a .333 hitting performance, then pulled away late in the second behind strong serving and a balanced attack. The Purple and Gold sealed the match in the third with 12 kills, hitting .444 in the frame and holding York to just nine points.
The Hawks return to the court on Oct. 17 at NYU for a 7 p.m. first serve.
