Hawks Fall in Final Minutes to Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Hunter College men's soccer team suffered its first conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 1–0 to Brooklyn College on the road.

With the result, the Hawks dropped to 3–5–2 overall and 0–1–1 in CUNYAC play, while the Bulldogs improved to 6–4–1 (1–0–1 CUNYAC).

The two sides were evenly matched for most of the contest, battling to a scoreless draw until the 78th minute when Brooklyn broke through with the lone goal of the game.

The conference matchup was physical from start to finish, featuring five yellow cards and one red. Hunter freshman forward Brandon Fridburg was shown a red card in the 73rd minute, leaving the Hawks shorthanded when Brooklyn netted the eventual game-winner.

Hunter was outshot 9–6 overall, while goalkeeper Matthew Fridburg made four saves in his third career start, moving to 1–2 on the season.

Patrick Irving led the Hunter offense with two shots, both on goal, while playing all 90 minutes. Allan Conway, Conor Sullivan, and Fernando Zuvela also went the distance on the back line, anchoring a defense that kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for much of the match.

In the midfield, Bejhon Alerte logged a full 90 minutes, and Ahmed Abukar contributed 73 minutes and a shot attempt. Yassine Jaballah also recorded a shot for the Hawks, but the Purple and Gold were unable to find the equalizer before time expired.

The Purple and Gold looks tobounce back on Oct. 8 as they travel to CCNY for a 4 p.m. conference matchup.
