NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team earned its fourth tie of the season Wednesday evening, grinding out a 0–0 draw in a tightly contested confernce matchup against the City College of New York.
The Hawks (3-5-4, 0-1-3 CUNYAC) played a defensive-minded game, highlighted by a standout performance in net from rookie goalkeeper
Matthew Fridburg, who notched a career-high seven saves to secure the clean sheet in the conference match.
Neither team found the back of the net despite generating 15 combined shots on goal. Hunter's defense, led by
Conor Sullivan,
Patrick Irving,
Fernando Zuvela, and
Allan Conway, held firm under second-half pressure. CCNY (1-6-4, 1-0-2 CUNYAC) tallied eight of its 13 total shots in the final 45 minutes, but Fridburg turned away multiple point-blank opportunities—including a diving save in the 90th minute to preserve the shutout.
On the offensive side, the Hawks managed two shots—one each from Sullivan and
Bejhon Alerte—while earning six corner kicks, including a flurry of late opportunities in the 77th and 88th minutes that nearly resulted in a breakthrough.
Hunter returns to the pitch on Saturday for a home conference match against York College. Kick-off is slated for noon on Randall's Island Field #75.
