MIDDLETOWN, CONN.- The Hunter College women's basketball closed out day two the Courtyard by Marriott Classic, defeating Albertus Magnus, 79–52, behind a regular-season best scoring performance from senior star
Alexa Charles, who capped the weekend by being named to the All-Tournament Team.
Charles delivered one of the most dominant outings of her career, pouring in 40 points on 15-of-27 shooting, including three 3-pointers, while going 7-for-8 from the line. She added five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and seven steals in 34 relentless minutes, controlling the game on both ends of the floor.
Hunter (3–1) trailed by two after the first quarter, but the momentum shifted quickly. Charles opened the second period with a layup and a deep three as part of a surge that pushed the Hawks ahead 20–17. From there, the Purple and Gold exploded for a 25–6 quarter, with Charles scoring 14 in the frame while assisting the fast-break push that overwhelmed the Falcons.
In the third quarter, Charles put the game out of reach. She buried back-to-back threes, scored repeatedly in transition, and capped an 11-point burst that lifted the Hawks to a commanding 26-point lead. Her defensive impact was equally devastating, jumping passing lanes for three steals in the period and sparking multiple fast-break conversions.
Senior forward
Gianna Henriques played a major supporting role, delivering 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go with nine rebounds, four assists and seven steals in an all-around standout performance.
Mia Fuller added nine points—going a perfect 6-for-6 at the line—along with three rebounds and four assists, while
Makkedah Murray chipped in four points, five assists and three boards.
Hunter's defense was smothering throughout, holding Albertus Magnus to 29 percent shooting and forcing 24 turnovers that the Hawks converted into 30 points. Hunter also ran the floor relentlessly, outscoring the Falcons 25–15 in transition.
The Hawks' 39-rebound effort and efficient second-quarter surge allowed them to maintain control the rest of the afternoon as the bench contributed valuable minutes down the stretch.
Hunter returns to the court on Nov. 22 as the Hawks hosted Penn State-Abington. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. in the Sportsplex.
