NEW YORK, N.Y. - Alexa Charles delivered a powerhouse performance with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and nine steals, leading the Hunter College women's basketball team to a 76–68 win over Penn State-Abington on Saturday afternoon in the Sportsplex. The win marked a milestone for head coach
John Garrett, who notched his 150th career victory with the program.
Alexa Charles put on a clinic from start to finish for Hunter (4-1), racking up eight rebounds, six assists and nine steals in a dominant two-way performance.
Mia Fuller added 11 points with a career-best five steals on the night, while
Sophie Stratton was a stand out off the bench, posting eight points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Gianna Henriques was a force in the paint for the Hawks, racking up nine points, eight rebounds and a block in addition to dishing out three assists in the win, while
Kennedy DeRuy chipped in seven points and four rebounds.
Hunter opened the game with a stifling defense and fast-break energy, jumping out to a 17–7 first-quarter lead. The Purple and Gold extended the margin to 43–26 by halftime, fueled by balanced scoring and a suffocating press that forced 25 turnovers from the Nittany Lions (3-3).
Abington fought back in the second half, narrowing the gap to single digits late in the fourth quarter. But Charles silenced the rally with a deep dagger three and a driving layup to put the game out of reach in the final minutes.
The Hawks shot over 50 percent from the floor (29-of-57) and held a 26-14 edge in points off turnovers. With the win, Hunter remained unbeaten at home on the season and continued its strong start to the 2025-26 campaign.
Hunter returns to the court on Nov. 25 at 5:00 p.m. in Hoboken, N.J. at Stevens Tech.
