Charles Scores 32 as Hunter Cruises Past Baruch in CUNYAC Opener

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Alexa Charles exploded for 32 points and the Hunter College women's basketball team opened CUNYAC play in dominant fashion with a 91–54 win over Baruch on Thursday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

The Hawks (6–3, 1–0 CUNYAC) were electric from the start, racing to a 27–7 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. Charles went 12-of-17 from the floor and a perfect 6-for-6 from the line, while also adding five steals, six assists, and three rebounds in just 26 minutes of action.

Hunter shot over 50 percent from the field and knocked down nine three-pointers, including three from Ali Drake, who finished with 10 points off the bench. The Purple and Gold forced 24 turnovers, turned them into 27 points, and recorded 15 steals in a complete team effort.

Mia Fuller tallied 13 points and a team-high seven assists, while Gianna Henriques had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks for a double-double of the season. Kennedy DeRuy added 11 points and four rebounds, while Wanhua Peng drilled two threes late to cap off the night. Junior Emma Tung grabbed a pair of steals in the win in addition to a rebound. 

Hunter led by as many as 46 points, dishing out 30 assists on 36 made baskets. All 14 Hawks saw action, with 12 recording at least one stat in the box score.

The Hawks continue conference play on Tuesday, Dec. 11 for a road game at CCNY. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
