MONTCLAIR, N.J. — The Hunter College softball team (2-6) struggled to generate offense on Tuesday, dropping both games of a doubleheader against Montclair State (6-6). The Hawks fell 5-0 in Game 1 before suffering a 9-0 run-rule loss in Game 2 at MSU Softball Stadium.
Game 1:
Hunter College was limited to just one hit in the opener, a single by Johana Galva, as Montclair State's pitching kept the Hawks off the board. Grace Basil and Emily Thompson each worked a walk, but Hunter College was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
The Hawks stayed within reach for much of the game, holding Montclair State to just two runs through five innings. However, a three-run sixth inning put the game out of reach. Bryn Staskavag pitched a complete game, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts.
Game 2:
Hunter College was once again held to one hit, this time from Jessica Fowler. Alexa Rivera reached base on a walk, but the Hawks couldn't find a breakthrough against Montclair State's pitching.
Hunter College remained within striking distance early, holding Montclair State scoreless in the first inning, but a four-run second inning followed by a five-run third inning allowed the home team to take firm control. Grace Basil pitched four innings, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits.

Hunter College looks to bounce back as the Hawks return to action on March 20, facing Yeshiva University in a doubleheader at Randall's Island Field #12. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m., with Game 2 to follow at 5 p.m.
