Hunter Sweeps Brooklyn on Senior Night

NEW YORK—The Hunter College men's volleyball team closed out its regular season with a commanding sweep over Brooklyn College in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) competition on Tuesday night. The Hawks took the victory in three sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-11) in Sportsplex as the Purple and Gold finished the season at 17-10 overall and 11-2 in CUNYAC play, setting up a home semifinal matchup on April 10. The match also served as Senior Night, with Hunter honoring five Hawks in Annes Deljanin, Nick Yao, Admir Cekic, Charlie Alvarez and Charles Pampliega

Hunter struggled out of the gate, managing just a .042 hitting percentage in the opening set, but still held off a scrappy Brooklyn (12-15, 8-5 CUNYAC) squad to take a 1-0 lead. Ahmed Mohamed provided a spark off the bench in the middle frame, posting four kills on seven swings without an error (.571). Kyle Foley found his rhythm in the second, notching four of his match-high eight kills and beginning a dominant serving run that included a team-best six aces.

The Hawks hit their stride in the third, with a .429 team hitting percentage. Foley stayed hot with two more aces, while Wyatt Kotuk (five kills, .364) and Annes Deljanin (two kills, two solo blocks, four block assists) helped seal the win at the net.

Cekic, another honored senior, added three kills and two aces, while libero Alvarez anchored the defense with a team-high six digs. Setter Felipe Delgado directed the offense with 22 assists and chipped in three aces of his own. Deljanin led all players with six total blocks. while Jon Pflueger  tacked on six kills. Nick Yao, who has been a steady presence for Hunter throughout his career, also saw action in all three sets.

Hunter finished the match with 11 service aces and 15 total blocks, holding Brooklyn to a .042 hitting percentage overall and just three kills in the final set.

The Hawks now turn their attention to the CUNYAC postseason, where they will host a semifinal match at home on April 10. Their opponent is yet to be determined.
