JAMAICA, N.Y. — The Hunter College men's tennis team (2-4, 1-2 CUNYAC) earned its first conference win of the season in emphatic fashion on Tuesday, blanking York College (0-6, 0-3 CUNYAC) 9-0 at the York College Courts. The Hawks didn't drop a single set across nine courts and were in control from start to finish—a statement win that underscored the team's depth and growing chemistry.
The match began with an authoritative start in doubles play. Anil Singh and Savio Francis set the tone at No. 1 with an 8-2 win. On court two, Joseph Zar and Martin Torterolo followed with an 8-1 victory. Krishna Arya and William Zimmerman capped off the doubles slate with a flawless 8-0 shutout at No. 3.
Hunter remained dominant in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets. Alexander Hagiu opened singles play with a near-perfect performance at the top spot, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win. Singh followed with a 6-0, 6-2 result at No. 2, while Raymond Leu rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 finish on court three.
At No. 4 singles, Zar was equally dominant, surrendering just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 result. Torterolo controlled play at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-2 win, and Jason Parmar sealed the perfect day at sixth singles with a composed 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Up next, the Hawks will look to build on Tuesday's momentum as they return to action tomorrow, April 16, for a CUNYAC matchup at Lehman College. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the Bronx.
