Hunter Track and Field Collects Multiple Top Finishes at Rage in the Cage Invitational

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hunter College men's and women's indoor track and field teams turned in multiple top-five performances on Saturday at the Rage in the Cage Invitational, hosted by the University of Hartford.

Men's Results:
Leonardo Kaplan led the Purple and Gold in the 3000-meter steeplechase, placing second with a time of 11:04.25. Hengzhi Zhu followed in sixth at 11:41.63, while Paul Patino added a time of 13:32.40 to round out Hunter's presence in the event.

In the field, Solomon Kumi secured 10th in the long jump with a leap of 6.07m. Jocsan Crespo contributed the team's top mark in the triple jump, landing at 10.47m to finish just outside the top 10.

Jonathan Cauchi led Hunter's efforts in the throws, delivering a 30.50m mark in the javelin and a 27.16m throw in the hammer to cap a solid individual showing.

Conor Sullivan represented Hunter as the team's lone entry in the 800 meters, posting a time of 2:20.60.

Women's Results:
Jamie Risso captured Hunter's lone event win of the meet, taking first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.30. Risso also anchored the 4x100-meter relay team alongside Becky Li, Tahlea Murray, and Salma El Bezzaoui, finishing fourth in 55.20.

Mikaelle Cesar kept the momentum on the track with a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters (1:04.56). In the 800 meters, Shannon Ferri added another fourth-place result with a time of 2:39.29, while Samantha Suriel followed in ninth with a 2:47.25 finish.

Hunter had three athletes place in the top six of the 3000-meter steeplechase. Emma Kilroy led the group with a third-place finish (14:40.07), followed by Melanie Liu in fifth (15:42.60) and Rawnaa Elshita in sixth (18:21.22).


In the field, Tahlea Murray took second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.53m and added a 4.76m performance in the long jump. Becky Li also reached the top 10 in that event with a 4.51m mark.

Enalyse Pacheco led Hunter in the javelin with a throw of 25.48m, while Nia Novotny also contributed a mark of 23.15m.

The Hawks closed the meet with a strong finish in the 4x400-meter relay, as Irving Jiang, Suriel, and El Bezzaoui combined for a fourth-place time of 4:51.56.

Up Next: 
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 12, at the Wilton Wright Invitational, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut.
