Hunter Two Losses to Conclude Buttermaker Tournament, Mattison Named to All-Tournament Team

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Hunter College women's volleyball team wrapped up play at the 2025 Buttermaker Tournament on Saturday afternoon, falling in four sets to St. Lawrence and in straight sets to host Muhlenberg College. The Hawks dropped to 2-7 on the season following the weekend competition.


Match 1: St. Lawrence 3, Hunter 1

(25-21, 24-26, 25-17, 25-11)

Hunter opened the day with a four-set defeat to St. Lawrence (6-4)  but showed signs of cohesion in a tightly contested second set, which they captured 26-24 to even the match.

Lily Mattison paced the offense with 13 kills and added a service ace, a block assist, and seven digs for a team-high 17.5 points. Amina Moummad recorded eight kills and 10 digs, while Michelle Liu chipped in five kills and a service ace.

Setter Madeline Snyder dished out 20 assists on the afternoon and hit a perfect 1.000 with three kills on three attempts. Natalie Morrill anchored the defense with 17 digs and one ace, and Kassidy Cruz Nuesi added five kills and one solo block.

Hunter finished with 36 kills and seven service aces, but was held to a .030 hitting percentage as St. Lawrence hit .233 across the match and pulled away in the third and fourth sets.

Match 2: Muhlenberg 3, Hunter 0
(25-15, 25-19, 25-17)

In the final match of the weekend, Hunter fell in straight sets to tournament host Muhlenberg (6-5). The Hawks were unable to generate offensive rhythm, hitting just -.011 for the match with 19 kills and 20 errors on 95 attempts.

Mattison led the way once again with 12 kills and added five digs to finish with a team-best 12.0 points. Moummad tallied two kills, four service aces, and five digs, while Liu added three kills and four block assists in the middle.

Snyder recorded 19 assists and nine digs, while Polanco had a steady defensive outing with eight digs and one ace. Morrill contributed 10 digs from the back row and Ana Duran added a solo block in the effort.

Despite showing fight in stretches of the second and third sets, the Hawks were unable to close the gap as Muhlenberg hit .210 for the match and held Hunter to single-digit kills in every set.

The Hawks return to the court on Sept. 16 as they open up conference play on the road at Lehman. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m.
