Hunter Drops Two on Opening Day of Buttermaker Tournament

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Hunter College women's volleyball team faced tough competition on the opening day of the 2025 Buttermaker Tournament, falling in straight sets to both Randolph-Macon and William Peace. The Hawks dropped to 2-6 on the season after the pair of non-conference matches.

Match 1: Randolph-Macon 3, Hunter 0
(25-16, 25-15, 25-12)

In the tournament opener, Hunter was held to a -.033 hitting percentage against a sharp Randolph-Macon squad. The Hawks managed just 19 kills on 91 total attempts, committing 22 errors in the process.

Madeline Snyder led the team with 15 assists and chipped in six digs and a service ace. Ana Duran contributed three kills on seven attempt and added two block assists. Lily Mattison, Amina Moummad, and Kassidy Cruz Nuesi each tallied three or more kills, with Mattison also collecting a solo block and two block assists.

Natalie Morrill provided three service aces and seven digs from the back row, while Moummad added seven digs to her trio of kills. Despite their efforts, Hunter was unable to slow down Randolph-Macon's efficient attack, which hit .213 for the match.


Match 2: William Peace 3, Hunter 0
(25-21, 25-12, 25-19)

In the second match of the day, Hunter showed flashes of strong play but couldn't sustain momentum, falling in straight sets to William Peace.

Snyder paced the Hawks with 16 assists and 12 digs, while Natalie Morrill added a season-best 10 digs.  Michelle Liu notched seven kills and three aces for a team-high 10 points. Mattison added eight kills and three digs in the match.  Moummad recorded six kills and nine digs while Theano Liodakis tallied six digs in the loss.

As a team, Hunter finished with 22 kills but was hampered by 26 attack errors, hitting -.040 overall.

Hunter returns to action tomorrow for Day 2 of the Buttermaker Tournament as they look to rebound and close out the weekend on a high note.
