Soccer Drops Road Match to Undefeated UMSV

BRONX, N.Y.-  Despite a strong effort from its midfield and multiple dangerous scoring chances, the Hunter College men's soccer team came up short in a 2–0 road loss to Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks (1-3-1) matched UMSV (4-0) in intensity across a physical 90 minutes, recording 10 shots—seven of them on target—while holding their opponents to just two goals despite facing 21 total shots and eight corner kicks.

Bejhon Alerte led the Hunter attack with three shots, two on goal, including a well-placed attempt in the 31st minute that forced a diving save. Rookie Brandon Fridburg also challenged the keeper in the 67th minute after a quick transition from the back line. Patrick Irving nearly found the net in the 75th minute with a driven shot to the top right corner that was tipped wide.

In the net, Max Tsigalnitsky kept the Hawks in the match throughout, finishing with six saves, including three in the first 20 minutes as UMSV came out pressing.

UMSV broke through in the 36th minute and converted a penalty kick in the 58th to make it 2–0, but Hunter's defense responded with a composed second half that limited further damage.

Several Hawks played the full 90 minutes, keeping intensity until the final whistle, including Conor Sullivan, Abdullah Al Maghrabi, Yassine Jaballah, Leonardo Kaplan, and George Tsiakas.

Hunter looks to bounce back on Sept. 17 as they host St. Joseph's Brooklyn at Tibbits Brook Park in Yonkers, N.Y. for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off.
