NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team exploded for four second-half goals under the lights on Wednesday evening, defeating St. Joseph's Brooklyn 4–0 in a dominant performance at Tibbetts Brook Park, where the Hawks hosted the match as their home venue.
After a scoreless first half despite outshooting the Bears (0-5-1) 12–5, the Hawks (2-3-1) shifted into high gear in the final 45 minutes, showcasing a balanced attack that saw four different players find the back of the net.
After a quiet first half, returner Saleel Eldin opened the scoring in the 54th minute with a powerful strike to the bottom center, to kick off the momentum. Just over 13 minutes later, Ahmed Abukar made it 2–0 after a clean setup from veteran defender Conor Sullivan, who earned the assist.
The offense continued to roll into the final 10 minutes. Senior Georgios Tsiakas added his name to the scoresheet in the 82nd minute on a composed finish after a perfect feed from Patrick Irving, who played a standout match in the midfield. Irving tallied his second assist in the 88th minute when he found Gregory Papadopoulos, who buried Hunter's fourth and final goal.
In total, the Hawks fired off 31 shots, with 15 on target, while holding St. Joseph's Brooklyn to just three shots on goal. Hunter's depth was on full display, with 19 players logging minutes and all four goals coming from different members of the roster. Max Tsigalnitsky secured the clean sheet in net with three saves, anchored by a steady defensive effort from Sullivan, Irving, Samuel Benson, and Abdullah Al Maghrabi.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Albertus Magnus College for a 1:00 p.m. match.
