NEW HAVEN, CONN.- The Hunter College men's soccer team suffered a 2–0 loss on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field, falling to a sharp Albertus Magnus squad despite outshooting the hosts in the second half and generating several close chances in both periods.
The Falcons (4-2-1) struck early, scoring in the fourth minute, but Hunter (2-5-1) responded with renewed pressure throughout the match, finishing with 11 shots, including five on goal, and holding Albertus Magnus to just three second-half attempts.
Brandon Fridburg was active on the frontline, recording two early shots on target in the first 20 minutes, both saved by the Albertus keeper. Georgios Tsiakas and Patrick Irving added pressure in the second half, each forcing additional saves, while David Zlobinsky also tested the keeper late in the first half after coming off the bench.
In net, freshman Matthew Fridburg made his second collegiate start and impressed with seven saves—including several diving stops in the first half that kept the Hawks within reach. His efforts helped slow down a fast-paced Falcon offense that tallied 13 total shots and scored once in each half.
Hunter's backline of Conor Sullivan, Yassine Jaballah, Samuel Benson, and Irving battled hard in a physical match that saw four yellow cards, two of them assessed to the Hawks. Despite winning the shot count 7–3 in the second half and earning a late corner kick opportunity, Hunter was unable to convert.
The Hawks return to the pitch on Sept. 27 for a road game at Pratt.
