PATCHOGUE, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team opened the 2025 season against St. Joseph's Long Island on Saturday afternoon in Patchogue, falling 2-1 to the nonconference opponent.
Despite the loss, Hunter (0-1) showcased strong efforts from several players, with forward
Georgios Tsiakas delivering an outstanding performance in his collegiate debut. Tsiakas recorded four total shot with three on goal and netted Hunter's lone score in the 41st minute, assisted by
Leonardo Kaplan and
Fernando Zuvela. Midfielders
Bejhon Alerte and
David Zlobinsky each attempted a shot, forcing two saves from the Golden Eagles' goalkeeper.
Defensively, goalkeeper
Max Tsigalnitsky impressed with eight saves in 90 minutes of action while facing heavy pressure. Hunter's defense held firm in the second half, keeping St. Joseph's scoreless after the break. However, the Purple and Gold were unable to capitalize their scoring opportunities and could not find the equalizer, falling 2-1 to the Golden Eagles.Â
