Hawks Split Centenary Tr-Match

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Centenary Tri-Match, defeating Alfred University in straight sets before falling in a hard-fought five-set battle to host Centenary. The Hawks moved to 5-13 overall and 1-1 in CUNYAC play.

Match 1: Hunter 3, Alfred 0
(25-18, 25-15, 25-17)

Hunter opened the day with a dominant sweep over Alfred University, riding efficient attacking and aggressive serving to a wire-to-wire win.

Lily Mattison led the offense with nine kills while hitting .333 and racking up four aces for a match-high 14.0 points. Fellow outside hitter Amina Moummad contributed four kills and an impressive seven service aces. Michelle Liu added six kills with a .429 attack percentage, and Kassidy Cruz Nuesi posted five kills on .385 hitting.

Setter Madeline Snyder dished out 19 assists and anchored the defense with 15 digs. Hunter tallied 14 service aces in the match and posted a .247 team hitting percentage while holding Alfred to just .098.

Match 2: Centenary 3, Hunter 2
(23-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 15-12)

Despite a standout performance from Mattison and a late push in the fifth set, Hunter came up just short in its second match of the day, falling to host Centenary in five tight sets.

Mattison once again paced the Hawks with a match-high 15 kills on 40 swings, adding two aces, 17 digs, and a pair of blocks for a team-best 19.0 points. Moummad followed with 11 kills, 14 digs, and one block assist, while Liu chipped in seven kills, a block, and an ace.

Snyder distributed 36 assists and added 11 digs, while Simone McIntyre tallied eight kills and 12 digs across five sets. Defensively, Natalie Polanco led the team with 16 digs, and Cruz Nuesi added seven of her own. The Hawks posted 44 total kills and finished with 86 digs in the match.

The Hawks return to the court on Oct. 4 for another tri-match hosted by Montclair State. Hunter will face the hosts at 12 p.m. followed by Stevens at 2 p.m.
