NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Hunter College men's basketball team fell just short in a hard-fought battle at the Sportsplex, dropping a 66-64 decision to conference opponent York College.
Despite a resilient second-half push, the Hawks (2-13, 0-4 CUNYAC) were edged in the final seconds by the Cardinals (4-7, 4-0), who maintained their unbeaten conference record. The game featured five lead changes and five ties, with neither team leading by more than single digits throughout.
JPMaaba paced Hunter with 16 points, five rebounds, and eight assists, converting six of nine from the free-throw line and hitting a pair of threes.
Jayden Jarrett continued his strong inside presence, with his second straight double-double, scoring 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
Jeremiah Otasowie added 12 points and three assists, while
Demetrios Kontos chipped in with nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc and pulled down seven boards.
Kristian Nunez anchored the defense with three steals and five rebounds, while
Sloan Ireland provided energy off the bench with five points and five rebounds.
The Hawks grabbed 16 offensive rebounds, totaled 46 rebounds overall, and held York to just 14.3 percent shooting from three, but ultimately couldn't overcome York's 50 points in the paint and timely late-game execution.
Hunter returns to action on Jan. 14 for another home game, this time against Brooklyn College at 7 p.m.
