Hawks Leaves No Doubt in 64 Point Victory Over CCNY

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team earned a dominant home victory on Friday evening, rolling past CCNY, 99-34.

Hunter (14-5, 7-1 CUNYAC) turned in its highest-scoring performance of the season, with 12 Hawks finding the scoring column and five finishing in double figures. The Purple and Gold's bench accounted for 43 points in the win over CCNY (4-12, 2-6 CUNYAC).

Alexa Charles set the tone early, pouring in 19 points in the opening quarter. The Tarrytown native finished with 22 points, eight steals, four rebounds, and three assists in just 22 minutes of action.

Mia Fuller provided a spark off the bench, scoring 13 points on 4-for-6 shooting, including 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, while leading the team with seven assists.

Ali Drake added 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting, along with three steals and two assists. Freshman Ariella Shindelman posted a season-high 10 points, knocking down two three-pointers and grabbing three rebounds in 10 minutes of play. Gianna Henriques also reached double figures, finishing with 10 points to go along with nine rebounds and four blocks.

Paulina Bonilla made her first start of the season and contributed nine points in 18 minutes, while adding six rebounds, two steals, and a block.

Hunter's defense fueled the blowout, forcing 42 turnovers and converting them into 59 points. The Hawks recorded 30 steals, led by Makkedah Murray with six, while Kennedy DeRuy and Sophie Stratton each tallied three. Aurey Tong added two steals.

Murray also chipped in eight points, four assists, and three rebounds in a strong two-way effort. DeRuy scored eight points, while DeenaMarie Gallego and Emma Tung each scored their first points of the season. Gallego added two assists, and Tung contributed a block.

The Hawks controlled the glass, outrebounding the Beavers, 48-14. Wanhua Peng grabbed four rebounds, while Tong and Elisabeth Asimakopolous added three and two, respectively.

Hunter returns to action next Friday against John Jay, with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Sportsplex.
