Hunter Drops Home Contest to John Jay

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team dropped an 89-70 decision to John Jay on Friday evening at the Hunter College Sportsplex.

Hunter (14-6, 7-2 CUNYAC) rebounded from a slow opening quarter to put together a much stronger second half, outscoring the visitors 47-40 over the final two periods after falling behind 25-7 early.

Mia Fuller led the Hawks with 16 points, converting 7-of-8 attempts from the free-throw line, while adding two assists. Makkedah Murray finished with 12 points, three steals, and two three-pointers, and Gianna Henriques added 11 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

Paulina Bonilla provided a lift off the bench with eight points on 4-for-9 shooting. Ali Drake added seven points and five assists, while Sophie Stratton scored six points, knocking down both of her three-point attempts.

Hunter remained aggressive defensively throughout the contest, forcing 24 turnovers and recording 17 steals. Murray and Henriques each collected three steals, while Aurey Tong led the Hawks with six.

The Hawks look to bounce back on Feb. 3 as they travel to York to continue conference play. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.
