Hawks Bounce Back With Road Win at York

JAMAICA, N.Y. — The Hunter College women's basketball team rolled to an 80-39 conference win at York on Tuesday night.

Hunter (15-6, 8-2 CUNYAC) controlled the game from the opening quarter and broke it open after halftime, outscoring York (0-25, 0-20 CUNYAC) 28-10 in the third to push the margin to 53-28 heading into the fourth.

Gianna Henriques powered the Hawks with 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting and a game-high 16 rebounds, adding three assists and two blocks. Makkedah Murray finished with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals, while Kennedy DeRuy added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Hunter's pressure and activity created a steady stream of extra possessions and transition chances. The Hawks won the rebounding battle 69-46, scored 19 second-chance points, and turned takeaways into 35 points off turnovers. Hunter also piled up 46 points in the paint.

Mia Fuller added seven points and a team-high eight assists, while Aurey Tong sparked the second unit with five points, four assists and four steals. Ariella Shindelman chipped in five points in five minutes, and Ali Drake posted four points, nine rebounds and three assists off the bench as Hunter's reserves accounted for 24 points.

Hunter shot 32-for-88 from the field and went 13-for-16 at the free-throw line in the conference road victory.

Hunter returns to the court on Feb. 5 for a 5:30 p.m. tip at Baruch College for the annual Battle of Lexington.
