Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Charles Drops 33 to Set New Conference Scoring Record in Hunter's 90-59 Win at John Jay

NEW YORK, N.Y.- In a historic night for Hunter College women's basketball, Alexa Charles broke the CUNYAC all-time career scoring record, pouring in 33 points to lead the Hawks past John Jay, 90-59, in a dominant conference road win at the Doghouse.

Entering the game just 31 points shy of the previous mark, Charles wasted no time rewriting the record book. Her performance came on 15-of-30 shooting, including three three-pointers, and was rounded out with eight rebounds, five steals, and a pair of assists.

Charles now sits atop the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) in scoring, with 2,372 career points, surpassing last year's record of 2,369 points set by Mia Castillo of Baruch. With much of her senior season still left, Charles will continue to make history.

The Hawks (10-4, 3-0 CUNYAC) used a balanced attack and a stifling second-half defensive effort to outscore the Bloodhounds (3-11, 1-2 CUNYAC) 50-28 after halftime. They tallied 29 assists on 36 made field goals, dominated fast-break opportunities, and held John Jay to just 33.3% shooting.

Gianna Henriques added 14 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double in as many games, while Mia Fuller chipped in 10 points, seven assists, and four steals. Ali Drake and Wanhua Peng combined for 15 points off the bench as Hunter's reserves contributed 23 total points.

The Hawks return to their home court on Jan. 9 for a 5 p.m. tip-off against York College.
