NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team dropped a 92-62 decision to Lehman College on Wednesday night in the Sportsplex.
Hunter (5-18, 3-9 CUNYAC) traded baskets early and was tied twice in the opening minutes, but Lehman (17-6,12-0 CUNYAC) gained separation midway through the first half. After Jeremiah Otasowie evened the score at 17-17 with a tip-in at the 10:54 mark, the visitors went on an extended run and carried a 52-28 advantage into halftime.
Otasowie led the Hawks with 12 points and went a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. JP Maaba added 10 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc, while Jayden Jarrett contributed 11 points and four rebounds. Georgios Gatsias finished with seven points and five assists, and Demetrios Kontos added six points on two three-pointers.
Hunter showed improved offensive rhythm in the second half, scoring 34 points after the break and shooting 36.7% over the final 20 minutes. The Hawks were more aggressive attacking the basket and capitalized at the line, converting 8-of-11 free throws in the second half.
Lehman shot 50.7% from the field for the game and held a 48-30 rebounding edge. Hunter recorded 28 bench points and continued to compete through the final buzzer despite the early deficit.
Hunter returns to the court on Friday, Feb. 13 for the team's annual Senior Night ahead of a 7 p.m. tip-off against Medgar Evers at the Sportsplex.
