ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Hunter College men's volleyball team outlasted Bard in a five-set thriller Tuesday night, earning a 24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 16-14 victory at the Stevenson Athletic Center.
With the win, Hunter improved to 8-3 overall, rallying from both an opening-set loss and a fourth-set setback to secure the decisive fifth set on the road.
The Hawks dropped a tightly contested first set before responding with strong offensive efficiency in the second and third, hitting .231 and .379, respectively, to take a 2-1 lead. After Bard forced a fifth set, Hunter closed the match with a composed 16-14 performance in the final frame.
Ahmed Mohamed led the Hawks with a match-high 25 kills on .386 hitting, adding three service aces and six digs in a dominant all-around effort. Wyatt Kotuk contributed eight kills and was a force at the net with six total blocks, including three solo efforts. Emmanuel Cochran added seven kills on .600 hitting and five total blocks.
Wesley Stubbs directed the offense with 28 assists and added seven digs and three block assists, while Lenny Arbitman chipped in 20 assists and 11 digs. Bradley Campos anchored the back row with a team-high 13 digs.
Hunter finished with 59 kills and hit .265 as a team while totaling 17 blocks in the match. The Hawks improved to 3-1 in five-set matches this season as they continue nonconference play later this week.
