NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hunter College men's volleyball team turned in a dominant performance Thursday night, sweeping York (NY), 25-4, 25-12, 25-8, at the Hunter Sportsplex.
With the victory, Hunter improved to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), controlling the match from the opening serve and never trailing.
The Hawks were highly efficient offensively, hitting .429 as a team with 29 kills on just eight errors in 49 attempts. Hunter opened the match with a blistering .778 hitting percentage in the first set, setting the tone for the straight-set win.
Wesley Stubbs led the way with eight kills on nine swings for an outstanding .889 hitting percentage while also distributing 12 assists and contributing three block assists. Sebastian Gomez added five kills on .667 hitting, and Emmanuel Cochran chipped in four kills and four block assists.
Hunter's serving pressure proved decisive, as the Hawks totaled 11 service aces. Brandon Yeh recorded three aces to go along with seven assists, while Lenny Arbitman added 11 assists in limited action. Jon Domingo and Ahmed Mohamed each contributed two service aces.
Defensively, Hunter totaled 15 block assists and held York to a negative hitting percentage for the match. Crisostomo Ibarra anchored the back row with seven digs as the Hawks limited extended rallies throughout the contest.
Hunter returns to the court this weekend with a nonconference tri-match. The Hawks will play Manhattanville at 2 p.m. followed by hosting King's College at 4 p.m.
