NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hunter College men's volleyball team earned a hard-fought four-set victory Tuesday night, rallying past Ramapo, 24-26, 25-23, 26-25, 25-21, at the Hunter Sportsplex.
Hunter (3-2) showcased resilience throughout the match, responding to narrow setbacks in the opening set and third set with clutch play down the stretch to secure its third win of the season.
After dropping the first set to Ramapo (2-5) in extra points, the Hawks bounced back in the second behind a steadier offensive rhythm and strong serving to even the match. The third set proved pivotal, as Hunter erased a late deficit and edged out a 26-25 win before closing the match with its most efficient frame, hitting .526 in the fourth set.
Ahmed Mohamed led the Hawks with 17 kills on .256 hitting, adding four service aces and finishing with 22 points overall. Sebastian Gomez delivered an efficient performance, recording 11 kills with just one error on 15 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. K-Ci Akwandoh added six kills and anchored the net defense with four block assists.
Wesley Stubbs directed the offense with 28 assists and eight digs, while Lenny Arbitman contributed 11 assists, four service aces, and five digs. Wyatt Kotuk added four kills on .500 hitting and chipped in two total blocks.
Defensively, Hunter totaled 10 block assists and received strong back-row play from Eddy Kang and Mohamed, who combined for 14 digs. The Hawks also recorded 12 service aces, applying consistent pressure throughout the match.
The win marked Hunter's first home victory of the season as the Hawks continue nonconference play on Feb. 7 at the King's College Tri-match.
