NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hunter College men's volleyball team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday night, sweeping Lehman College in straight sets, 25-13, 25-14, 25-15, at the Hunter Sportsplex in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) matchup.
With the victory, Hunter improves to 13-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Lehman falls to 8-8 overall and 4-2 in CUNYAC action.
The Hawks controlled the match from the opening serve, hitting .435 in the first set while holding Lehman to a negative hitting percentage. Hunter continued its efficient offensive performance in the second frame, recording 17 kills and hitting .519 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Hunter closed out the sweep in the third set, finishing the night with 39 kills and a strong .378 team hitting percentage.
Ahmed Mohamed led the Hawks offensively with 12 kills on .400 hitting while adding six digs and a service ace. Sebastian Gomez added eight kills on .438 hitting, while Emmanuel Cochran delivered seven kills and four block assists.
K-Ci Akwandoh was highly efficient, finishing with four kills on five swings for an .800 hitting percentage while contributing three service aces and two blocks.
Wesley Stubbs guided the offense with 16 assists while also recording four service aces and two block assists. Lenny Arbitman added 11 assists as Hunter totaled 31 assists in the match.
Defensively, Crisostomo Ibarra led the Hawks with nine digs, while Demetri Gournelos contributed six digs and five kills.
Hunter also applied pressure from the service line throughout the match, finishing with 14 service aces in the victory.
The Hawks return to the court on March 12 for another CUNYAC contest at NJCU. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
