Hawks Blanked Twice at Saint Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. — The Hunter College women's softball team continued its season Saturday afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader at Saint Elizabeth, where the Hawks were unable to generate offense in a pair of shutout losses.

Game 1: Hunter 0, Saint Elizabeth 3
Hunter threatened early in the opener when Abigail Bidinger ripped a one-out double in the top of the first inning. The promising start quickly stalled, however, as Adriana Ramirez's hard-hit line drive was snagged by the second baseman and Bidinger was doubled off at second to end the frame.

The Hawks' bats remained quiet for the remainder of the contest, producing just two additional hits — singles from Giordana Bowen and Ramirez over the final six innings.

In the circle, junior Grace Basil (0-2) delivered a steady bounce-back performance, allowing three runs while striking out three across seven innings of work.

Game 2: Hunter 0, Saint Elizabeth 12
The second game proved more difficult for Hunter, as Saint Elizabeth seized control early. After the Hawks went down in order in the top of the first, the Eagles strung together singles and walks in the bottom half before a two-run double pushed the lead to 5-0. Saint Elizabeth added two more runs in the second inning and broke the game open with five additional runs in the third.

Hunter again struggled offensively, managing just two hits — singles by Amanda Rivera and Elizabeth Thompson — before the contest was ended by the mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Sophomore Isabella Thumhart (0-1) made her season debut in the circle, issuing five walks and throwing four wild pitches while allowing 12 runs over three innings. Giordana Bowen entered in relief in the fourth inning and provided a bright spot for the Hawks, tossing a scoreless frame.

Hunter returns to action Sunday, March 15, when the Hawks travel to Hoboken, N.J., for a doubleheader against Stevens Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
