WEEHAWKEN, N.J. - The Hunter College softball team left Weehawken still searching for its first win after dropping a double header to Stevens Tech.
Game 1: Hunter 3, Stevens 11
Hunter found themselves trailing 3-0 after the first two innings, the result of three errors that gave the Ducks extra opportunities at the plate. The Hawks were able to strike back and tie the game up in the top of the third inning after a Grace Basil double plated two runs and Sonia Rosales-Rosenthal delivered a two-out RBI single to drive home Basil.
The Hawks continued to struggle defensively, committing two more errors in the next frame, contributing to a six-run inning for the Ducks. With momentum strongly on Stevens' side, the Purple and Gold's bats remained quiet before a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning ended the first game, 11-3.
Freshman Abigail Bidinger (0-2) threw all 5.1 innings for the Hawks. Despite giving up 11 total runs, only four were earned, and Bidinger showed potential, striking out four.
Game 2: Hunter 0, Stevens 17
The Hawks were unable to swing the momentum in the second game of the double-header, as they continued to struggle on both sides of the plate. Hunter committed nine errors in four innings, doing no favors for starting pitcher Madison Drouet (0-1), before ultimately being run-ruled 17-0.
Drouet's final line on the day was 11 earned runs on 10 hits and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work. The Purple and Gold was able to scrap together a pair of hits with singles from Elizabeth Thompson and Bidinger, but were unable to drive in any runs.
The Hawks' next contest will be their home opener at Randall's Island Field #12 against Sarah Lawrence on Friday, March 20th. First pitch is scheduled for 3 pm.
