Men's Volleyball Drops a Pair in Home Tri-Match

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hunter College men's volleyball team hosted a non-conference tri-match Saturday afternoon at the Hunter Sportsplex, falling to New Jersey City University in the opener before dropping a second match to Vassar. The Hawks move to 15-8 overall on the season.


Game 1: Hunter 0, NJCU 3
(19-25, 17-25, 24-26)

Hunter opened the day against New Jersey City (17-6) and battled late but fell in straight sets.

The Hawks were most competitive in the third set, recording 14 kills and hitting .289 while pushing the set to extra points before falling 26-24. Hunter finished the match with 35 kills and a .196 hitting percentage.

Demetri Gournelos and Sebastian Gomez led the offense with eight kills apiece, while Emmanuel Cochran added six kills on an efficient .857 hitting percentage.

Ahmed Mohamed contributed seven kills and two service aces, while Wesley Stubbs directed the offense with 29 assists and two aces.

Defensively, Bradley Campos anchored the back row with eight digs, and the Hawks totaled eight team blocks in the match.



Game 2: Hunter 0, Vassar 3
(17-25, 18-25, 17-25)

In the second match of the day, Hunter fell to Vassar (13-8) in straight sets.

The Hawks stayed within striking distance early, with five tie scores in the opening set, but were unable to sustain offensive momentum throughout the match. Hunter finished with 29 kills and a .043 hitting percentage.

Wyatt Kotuk and Emmanuel Cochran led the Hawks with six kills each, while Sebastian Gomez added seven kills.

Wesley Stubbs recorded 22 assists and a team-high 12 digs, while Bradley Campos added six digs defensively.

The Hawks return to the court for thier final home match of the regular season on March 24 at 6 pm against Baruch.
