PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's tennis team dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to Purchase College on Wednesday afternoon on the road.
Hunter (1-2) earned three singles victories but could not overcome a sweep in doubles play that proved to be the difference in the match.
In doubles action, the Hawks were edged in all three flights. The pairing of Odin Dibra and Savio Francis pushed their match to a tiebreak at No. 2 before falling in a tightly contested battle, while Nicholas Cooper and Alexander Hagiu, along with Jason Parmar and Nicholas Douglas, were also defeated at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
Hunter responded with a strong showing in singles play, claiming three straight-set victories. Dibra led the charge at No. 3 singles with a 7-6, 6-3 win, while Francis dominated at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Parmar added another point for the Hawks at No. 5, earning a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Despite the momentum in the middle of the lineup, the Hawks came up just short in the remaining singles matches, including a hard-fought three-set battle at No. 2 singles that ultimately went the other way.
