BOX SCORE KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The Hunter College men's tennis team fell 5-2 in a road matchup against Merchant Marine on Sunday afternoon at the Brooks Stadium Courts.
Hunter (1-3) picked up victories in both doubles and singles play but could not keep pace as the hosts secured the overall match.
In doubles action, the Hawks earned a point at No. 2, as the duo of Odin Dibra and Savio Francis delivered a 6-2 victory. Nicholas Cooper and Alexander Hagiu were defeated at No. 1, while Jason Parmar and Kinley Wangchuk dropped the No. 3 contest.
In singles play, Hunter secured two wins highlighted by strong performances at the top of the lineup. Cooper led the way at No. 1 singles with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory. Francis followed with a hard-fought three-set win at No. 4 singles, rallying after dropping the opening set to earn the point.
Despite the efforts, the Hawks were unable to add to their total, falling in the remaining singles matches as Merchant Marine closed out the contest.
Hunter returns to the court on April 1 in a conference matchup against Lehman.
