Softball Takes Two from Mount Saint Vincent

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College softball team swept a high-scoring nonconference doubleheader against Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Hawks earned a 17-8 victory in the opener before holding off a late push for a 13-10 win in game two, improving to 8-19 on the season.

Game 1: Hunter 17, Mount Saint Vincent 8
Hunter's offense erupted for 21 hits in the opener, scoring in six of seven innings to power the victory.

The Hawks jumped out to a fast start with a five-run first inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and defensive miscues. Hunter continued to apply pressure, adding runs in the second and third before breaking the game open with a five-run sixth inning and a four-run seventh.

Brianna Flores led the offensive surge with three hits and five RBIs, while Grace Basil and Abigail Bidinger each recorded three hits and drove in multiple runs. Sonia Rosales Rosenthal also added three hits and two RBIs, and Madison Drouet and Elizabeth Thompson each finished with three-hit performances.

In the circle, Bidinger went the distance to earn the win, allowing eight runs (five earned) while striking out three.

Game 2: Hunter 13, Mount Saint Vincent 10
Hunter completed the sweep in a back-and-forth contest, using late offense to pull away.

After trailing early, the Hawks began to chip away with two runs in the fifth before erupting for six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. Hunter added four more runs in the seventh to create separation.

Bidinger had a standout performance, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBIs, while Isabella Thumhart added three hits and four RBIs. Rosales Rosenthal contributed two hits and an RBI, and Madison Drouet added two hits and scored multiple runs.

Drouet earned the win in relief, tossing 2.1 innings and allowing just one run while striking out two.

The Hawks continue nonconference play on April 14 with a home doubleheader against Mount Saint Mary at 3 and 5 p.m.
