Game Recap: Softball |

Hawks Battle St. Joe's LI at Home

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College softball team came up short in both ends of a nonconference doubleheader against St. Joseph's Long Island on Tuesday at Randall's Island. The Hawks fell 18-5 in the opener before dropping an 11-4 decision in game two, moving to 11-23 on the season. Despite the loss, Hunter had silver linings, in Isabella Thumhart's first home run in the Hawk uniform, and Adriana Ramirez's four hits on the day.

Game 1: Hunter 5, SJLI 18
The opener stretched into a lengthy contest, lasting nearly three hours, as both teams combined for 23 runs on 24 hits.

St. Joseph's used a big third inning to build a double-digit lead, but Hunter responded with a five-run fourth inning in an attempt to claw back into the game. Isabella Thumhart highlighted the rally with a two-run home run, while Grace Basil added a two-RBI single to cap the frame.

Adriana Ramirez recorded two hits, while Elizabeth Thompson reached base multiple times and scored a run. The Hawks continued to battle offensively despite the early deficit.

Game 2: Hunter 4, SJLI 11
Hunter again showed fight in the second game, responding with a three-run third inning to cut into an early deficit.

Ramirez and Thumhart each collected two hits, with Ramirez driving in a run and Thompson adding a pair of sacrifice flies. The Hawks trailed by just two runs after three innings before St. Joseph's pulled away with a five-run fourth inning.

The game was called early due to darkness following five innings.

Hunter will return to action for its final home doubleheader of the season on Saturday, April 25, when the Hawks host conference opponent Brooklyn College at Randall's Island. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
