FLUSHING, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's tennis team grabbed a win over York College, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, Hunter remained unbeaten in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), improving to 3-0 in conference action.
The Hawks set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches. Nicholas Cooper and Alexander Hagiu earned a 6-0 victory at No. 1, while Odin Dibra and Savio Francis matched that score at No. 2. The tandem of Nicholas Douglas and Yassin Vila completed the sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 3.
Hunter carried that momentum into singles play, claiming all six flights in straight sets. Cooper led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Hagiu followed with a shutout win at No. 2. Dibra and Francis continued the dominance at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, each earning 6-0, 6-0 wins.
Douglas added another point at No. 5 with a 7-3, 6-3 victory, and Kinley Wangchuk capped off the match with a straight-set win at No. 6.
Hunter controlled the match from start to finish, dropping just a handful of games across all flights in a convincing conference victory.
The Purple and Gold return to the court tomorrow as they travel to St. Joseph's Long Island for a 3 p.m. non-conference match.
