Three-peat…Yes We Kamm!
Hawks Win Program's 19th CUNYAC Title

New York, NY – Senior opposite Amanda Kamm (Dix Hills, NY/Hills West) closed out her regular season collegiate career with a 19 kill and 20 assist performance in the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship match where the Hawks defeated the top-seeded City College of New York Beavers 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21) to earn the program's third straight title and 19th overall program championship Friday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex.

Kamm, who averaged 4.10 kills, 5.20 assists and 1.20 digs in 10 sets during the CUNYAC Tournament, was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player for the third consecutive season. Senior outside hitter Olga Petrenko (Bronx, NY/Environmental Studies) represented Hunter on the All-Tournament Team after averaging 2.50 kills and 3.00 digs per set in three matches.

Sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Broome (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) had one of her better performances of the season, finishing with a double-double 12 kills and 12 assists. Senior setter Melissa Hernandez added 22 assists for the Hawks, while sophomore libero Rachel SantaOlalla (Ventura, CA/Ventura) tallied 13 digs.

“We understood our goal tonight and didn't fold like we did during the regular season,” said Hunter head coach Ray Bello, who has now combined to win five CUNYAC volleyball championships. This is his second women's championship, to go along with three titles as the coach of Hunter's men's team. “These ladies have been through the ups and downs all season. They came together as a team at the right time tonight. We even had our younger players step up tonight.”

“Our defense is our biggest strength … Our defense and our blocking were the biggest part of our success this season. That's why this team can be successful at [NCAA] Regional”, said Kamm.

The Hawks, who advanced to the finals with a 3-0 win over the third-seeded Baruch College 25-21, 28-26, 25-22), finish the regular season with a 27-5 overall record and will make the program's seventh NCAA Tournament appearance, with brackets being announced on Monday.
