Hawks Subdue Lightning, 54-40

New York, NY – Junior Heather Alvord (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook), a three-time CUNYAC Swimmer of the Week this season, led the Hawks to their third straight conference win with two individual victories over Lehman College, 54-40 Tuesday evening at the Hunter North Pool in New York, NY.

Alvord earned her first win in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing over two seconds, 28.02, ahead of her teammate, sophomore Olga Kovalkova (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) who took second place with a time of 30.60. Later in the meet, she won the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:05.97. Hunter's Adrienne Baldassano (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's by-the-Sea) took second in that event with a time of 1:14.08.

Junior Carla Mendoza (College Point, NY/Bayshore) had the first individual victory of the day, winning the 1,000 freestyle, 14:48.58, with freshman Alexis Burgos (Jamaica, NY/Archbishop Molloy) taking second place with a time of 15:47.28. Sophomore Nicole Hracs (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) took first in the 200-yard I.M. with a time of 2:35.44 and sophomore Marian Wu (Flushing, NY/Stuyvesant) completed the sweep with a 2:32.11 second place finish. Wu also took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:04.41 swim.

Hunter now improves to 4-2 on the season and 3-0 in the CUNYAC, while Lehman drops to 2-5 and 1-1 in the conference. They will return to the pool on Thursday, when the Pioneers of William Paterson will be in town for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference meet at the North Pool.
