Hawks Joust Gothic Knights In Five Set Battle

New York, NY – Senior opposite Amanda Kamm (Dix Hills, NY/Hills West) recorded a match high 18 kills in yet another close and exciting match between Hunter and New Jersey City University who battled to a five set match for the second straight season with the Hawks coming out on top this time 3-2 (23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 15-12) in women's volleyball action Thursday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

After dropping the first set 25-23, the Hawks would go onto win the second and third sets convincingly and seemed to have control of the match. However, NJCU had the Hawks on the heels in the fourth set, taking a 19-7 lead before winning the set 25-19. The fifth set was close the whole way through, but Hunter was able to get the lead and would eventually get the win on a hitting error by the Gothic Knights.

Senior outside hitter Olga Petrenko (Bronx, NY/Environmental Studies) once again came up big for the Hawks, finishing with ten kills, 15 digs and four aces. Freshman middle blocker Mallory Grubler (Bayside, NY/Cardozo) tallied seven kills and three total blocks.
