Hackettstown, NJ – Junior midfielder
Diego Guerrero (Cali, Columbia/Colegio Bolivar) found the back of the net in the 23rd minute to give the Hawks their first lead of the season and eventual win over the Cyclones of Centenary College in the first game of the Centenary/Premier Soccer Classic in Hackettstown, NJ.
In what would become a defensive battle, the Hawks decisive goal was scored off a across pass that was then tapped around in the box until
Guerrero was able to get a foot on it and knock it past the Cyclone keeper. Centenary would have many chances in the second half to tie things up, out shooting the Hawks 6-1, but none were able to sneak past senior
Noah Fessler (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) who recorded his third career shutout.
Fessler finished the game with six saves after facing 14 shots, while junior
Damien DiBuono (Succasuna, NJ/Morris Catholic) made two saves in net for the Cyclones.
The Hawks (1-3) return to the pitch in Hackettstown on Sunday when they will face Purchase College for a Noon game. Earlier today, the Panthers defeated the College of Staten Island 6-3 for their first win of the season.
