Hawk Swimmers Open Season with Tough Loss at Home

Meet Results

New York, NY – Senior Heather Alvord (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) recorded wins in her only two races of the day, the 200-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle, but her efforts would not be enough as the Hawks just fall short to the Devils of FDU-Florham on Saturday in the season opener held at the Hunter North Pool.

Alvord finished the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:23.14, a little over 12 seconds faster than the second place swimmer, Elizabeth Hilzen of FDU. Then four events later, Alvord tapped the wall a little under 11 seconds faster than FDU swimmer Luci Dimaggio who finished second with a time of 5:55.58 in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Hawks final win of the day came in the 200-yard freestyle relay where the Hawk “A” team finished in 1:56.45, while FDU was in second with a time of 2:12.52.

Junior Kimberly Happich (Lindenhurst, NY/St. John the Baptist) also had a productive day for the Hawks, taking second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:31.42 and then finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:08.00.

The Hawks return to the pool on Friday, when they open CUNYAC play with a meet against York College at the North Pool.
