Hawks Repeat Effort Comes Up Short

Staten Island, NY – The Hunter College men's soccer season came to a close on Saturday as their attempt to become the first team to repeat as champion in consecutive seasons since 2001 were shut down by the six-time champion York College 1-0 in the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship match held at the College of Staten Island.

The Hawks had seemed to get on the board first, with a Mauro Ortiz goal in the first half, however a delayed call would nullify the goal. The Cardinals would then score late in the second half with two-time CUNYAC Player of the Year Elysee Vilsaint dishing to Francisco Florez who was able to hit the opposite corner of where the Hunter keeper was covering.

The Hawks continued to fight hard, but just couldn't one into the back of net despite outshooting the Cardinals 23-12.

The Hawks finish the season with an 8-11-1 overall record and were 4-2 in the CUNYAC.
